• What Lee tried to do in the CIC of the Pegasus? That was not mutiny. Mutiny involves unlawfully removing the commander of a vessel. Lee was trying to do it lawfully. (Unsuccessfully, but legally he was in the right because Garner was violating a lawful order.)

• Kara had been on the Pegasus for four days, not a month. She was there to do training, not as CAG (although she certainly behaved like a CAG when she was flying during the battle).

• Kate's current fan fiction pet peeve: Apollo (or anyone else, for that matter) calling Kara "Buck." Er, no. Just. No. Starbuck, or Kara, or Captain, or Captain Thrace, or even Thrace. But no one on the show has ever, ever called her "Buck."

Further** on the subject of my previous entry, a comment from a slightly scary Apollo/Starbuck mailing list that I amusetorture myself with:

Amid all the angst of the rounds of spoilers and actresses who are almost as deluded as the character they play, (I love Katee, I just think she's wrong about some things) this was a breath of fresh L/K air.

(Emphasis mine.) Um, no comment on the fic this was "reviewing." (It's not quite bad enough to snark on awfulbgfic, unless I'm feeling particularly snippy.)

What is it about shippers that makes them so insane? Anyone? Bueller?

And, um, anyone here think Kara is "deluded?"

So, is it just me, or is it weird that there are fan fiction writers who think that they understand a character - specifically, Kara Thrace - better than the actor who plays her? Because I find it really odd when I read a fanfic writer saying, "[Sackhoff] and I don't see eye to eye on the character of Starbuck..."

Also, I was amused by this comment: "Katee Sackhoff doesn't seem to understand her character's romantic motivations at.all." (from here). But then, shippers are ... an interesting breed.

I do not write fiction. However, for some reason, I wrote this.

This is friends-locked. I realize that, even so, some of my friends don't like RPF. So, a warning up front: This is, technically, RPF; however, in my defense, it is RPF on crack. Even those who don't normally like such stuff might like this. (And those who do normally like such stuff may well not like this!)

Inspired by whatimages's request for "Katee & Jamie take a post-apocalyptic road trip," but she totally didn't expect it to turn out like this. So, er, someone else is going to have to write that for her. Sorry!

Someone on my flist - all right, it was whatimages - pointed out a lengthy post + commentary by nancy777ca that turned into a pretty good wankfest. The wank eventually settled on being about criticism (constructive vs. destructive) and whether or not Danielle Steele is a writer on a par with Jane Austen*, but it actually started out being about a couple of subjects near and dear to my own heart, namely, RPF and the concept of canon in fan fiction. I thought about responding on nancy777ca's journal but decided I'd rather do it here. Start my own wank, as it were. However, I'm doing a fair amount of quoting from this post and some of the comments thereto.

Why do so many BSG fanfic writers have Kara call Lee "Adama?" Or him call her "Thrace," for that matter. They have never, ever, never, not once! in the series called each other by those names. When Starbuck says "Adama" she means the Commander, although she doesn't call him that to his face. (She calls him "Commander," or "sir," or, once, very notably, "Boss," when addressing him.)

This buggeth me. I used to see it in bad fic but now I see it in otherwise good fic as well. Hrmph.
