So, that twelvecolonies challenge of 25,000 words by Dec. 1? I don't know. I'd like to help out the team. The word count doesn't particularly scare me, since I've done 20K in two weeks before, for my yuletide assignment in 07. But. I have a sg_rarepairings fic to write by beginning Dec, too. I have Ariadne to finish editing and put up next week. (OMG! NEXT WEEK! *flail*) And several of my possible longfic ideas tend to tread all over Ariadne and its sequel, since they're all S.4 AUs. But on the other, other hand (yes, I'm an octopus, shut up): I have two ideas that might work. 1. Do a fic compliant with The Plan, in my Before it's too late-'verse, where Sam and Leoben get to know each other on Caprica, really really well. 2. Something completely different in an Earth AU (not Nellis-verse). A few of you may remember I did a comment-fic sometime ago in which Kara is a concert pianist, and Sam's a physicist. I did a vague outline for how they meet and run into bad guys and stuff, awhile back, and that could go 20K easily. So, since I have to decide NOW, A POLL! :) Poll #1482291 Choose a Project!

twelvecolonies is having a long fic challenge. Impossible? Yes. Am I going to try to do it? Heck yes. So, I'm looking at my BSG story prompts and wondering what would work for this. Here are my options: #1. New Caprica AU where Sam and Dee end up in each other's places and Kara and Dee run the New Caprica resistance. I'm not sure I can get 25,000 words out of this, though, even if I end up with it being Kara/Dee. #2. The follow-up to my AU where Kara uses "All Along the Watchtower" to wake Sam up at the end of "Someone to Watch Over Me", where unwiped!memories!Sam and Kara work together to help the fleet get to Earth more plausibly than in "Daybreak". This is probably about the right length, and I have most of the plot points outlined already. #3. Another 4.5 AU where Lee and Gaeta run the mutiny with a lot less bloodshed and shady participants, leading to a universe where the younger generation of military leaders, political leaders, cylon leaders, etc., are in charge, make peace, and take the fleet to a better end. I'm not sure I could finish this in 25,000 words, though, and the outlining on this fic would be insane. #4. Crackfic sequel to my fic where Head!Leoben inspired Glen Larson to make old!BSG and Head!Six inspired RDM to make the more-accurate-but-not-perfect new!BSG, and all the head!people get together to have frakparties and mock the adaptation of the "true" story of BSG (pseudo MST3K). Depending on how much story I put into this, it could easily be the right length, and if it goes too long, the seasons make perfect stopping points. #5. Pre-series Kara gen fic about her life as a flight instructor, with appearances by BFF Helo and various students, including Zak but pre-Kara/Zak. I have most of the outline for this, but I'm not sure how I want it to end. #6. New Caprica AU where Leoben stops Kara from stabbing him during the kiss and shoots Sam when he comes in. Sam dies, Kara's taken to a baseship, and Sam downloads. Again, I know where this story goes for a while, I just don't know what the endpoint is, so I'm very hesitant to start it. #7. Sequel to my bsg_bigbang fic that only karate0kat has read so far, but will be published before the twelvecolonies deadline. The story doesn't necessarily need a sequel, but I'd love to write more of that universe. There are some more prompts for longfics, but I can tell that they'd end up being much longer than 25,000 words; I just wish I could narrow it down even further. I should really get started writing one of these in the next couple days, but I have no idea which one... Tags: battlestar galactica, fanfiction, on writing

Apologies for the lateness; I took the weekend off for the pornbattle, but then completely forgot to start posting these again. " No Exit" - The Deep Geeking RewatchCheck back here if you need a reminder of how this works. Discussion, theorizing, and any squeeing can all commence...now. Feel free to drop in any time from now until the discussion for "Someone to Watch Over Me" will start. (And yes, dammit, I'm using this pic because this is how the episode ends in my favorite AU) Discussion questions: How long has it been since we last saw Kara and Sam in "Blood on the Scales"? What has Kara been doing, other than prepping for surgery? How long between the first surgery and when Sam wakes up? Has Kara spoken to anyone else in the meantime? Does anyone else come to see her and/or Sam? What do you think Kara's mental reactions are on hearing what Sam has to relate? Do you think Sam's frustration is mostly with himself (his memory issues) or with Kara and her behavior? What do you think Kara's behavior through this episode says about her? Kara's promise to Sam to give "all the time we need" and to "get you back"--is this solely in relation to their destinies, or is this more personal? And is it motivated by guilt, or by a different realization? What do you think Kara does immediately after the episode ends? And now, because that ending absolutely sucks and should not have existed, some lighter questions: When Kara says that the Cylons want a musical, does this mean that Sam has played the guitar/sung before, so she knows he can do it? Are Kara/Sam not the most touchy-feely, speaking-without-words couple ever? <3

You know that old rule about modern television shows—in their universe, their show cannot exist. For instance, The Office can reference Battlestar Galactica, which is on TV in The Office's universe, but The Office itself does not exist in The Office's universe. One would assume that this also applies to actors, so that Steve Carrell does not exist in The Office's universe either, nor do any other actors that appear on The Office unless they appear as themselves. This is kind of tricky however... But my question is—does the show "Farscape" exist in the universe for "Stargate: SG-1"? Obviously, Stargate as a show does not exist, though a near-equivalent called "Wormhole X-Treme" does. But what about Farscape? You would think no, given the presence of Ben Browder and Claudia Black. However, this clip has me wondering: Is Vala supposed to be ripping off Farscape, which the TV executive has not seen? If so, does she cast herself as Aeryn because she sees the resemblance? Isn't that kind of weird? Or, does Farscape not exist in the universe of Stargate: SG-1, and therefore is just Vala's wacky mind creating a scenario? And for that matter, in this same episode, the reason for making the "Wormhole X-Treme" movie, despite it only lasting a few episodes on TV, is because it performed well on DVD. Is Wormhole X-Treme supposed to be Firefly, or does Firefly exist in the Stargate: SG-1 universe, and Wormhole X-Treme is just like Firefly? *sigh* They shouldn't be able to do this, make references without more implicit understanding of what they mean. FicletSo I wrote femslash! Very short, G-rated, implied femslash. ;) I really have no excuse for myself here: I blame the porn battle for putting the idea in my head and twelvecolonies for making me write it. Relief, Cally Henderson/Tory Foster (yup, for real!), rated E for everyone: ( Suicide had been her first thought, but Cylons were hard to kill. )Fic MemeSnerched from about a quarter of my flist, most recently taragelPick a paragraph (or any passage less than 500 words) from any fanfic I've written, and comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the fic, lots of awful puns, and anything else that you'd expect to find on a DVD commentary track. All my stories are archived here. And speaking of fic, am I just lazy, or is three weeks to write a 25,000 word story from scratch a little - what's the word - IMPOSSIBLE?? Sigh. :(((Tags: bsg_fic, meme

Just so you know, sblmnldrknss knows that "comic books aren't challenging."Reading should only ever be at age level or above and though she claims to read EVERYTHING in one comment, she is quick to later inform us that, in fact, she never reads children's fiction for fun because it is beneath her. Apparently "if you're over, I don't know, 12, reading Harry Potter doesn't 'count' as reading anymore than reading People magazine 'counts' as reading." An interesting judgment from someone who has never read the books at all. In that same vein, one doesn't have to actually KNOW about something in order to deem it unworthy in her world. she has never seen an episode of the Simpsons, but can claim with all confidence that it is juvenile because it involves animation. Also, all video games are childish. And yes, this is the same person who would let a teenage daughter die after a botched abortion because abortion is wrong and getting her child medical help would make her morally culpable for the abortion.

Recently several members of the BSG fandom noticed that fanfiction writers were not posting as many stories as they once had and, being the inquisitive people that they were, they began to discuss why this might be. This discussion proved intriguing enough to prompt a couple of us to create a pair of polls exploring the complex relationship between fanfiction writers and readers as a means of getting to the bottom of this particular fandom mystery. So if you are a reader or writer of Battlestar Galactica fanfiction, please head on over to our new community fandompollgeek and complete the appropriate poll ( poll for writers; poll for readers). If you are both a reader and a writer, go ahead and complete both polls. Once we have our results we’ll post them to the community for everyone to review and discuss. And if you, like us, are intent on solving the mysteries of the fannish universe via the most objective means LJ has to offer, or just happen to have an unnatural obsession with ticky-boxes and/or pie charts, please feel free to join the fandompollgeek community; after all, there are undoubtedly other fannish – or ficish – questions out there and it is our goal to answer them– preferably through the use of spreadsheets, bar graphs and pretty multi-colored pie charts. But first, go and answer our writers and readers polls!
