Sorry for the double post, but I realized that I had never actually posted this one here. Title: The Space Between Us Author: lls_mutant Word Count: 115K Rating: R for violence, language, and rape- not much sex at all Pairings: Gaeta/Hoshi, Pilot!Eight/Engineer!Two, Kara/Sam, the Tighs, the Agathons, Adama/Roslin, Boomer/Tyrol, Baltar/Caprica Six, Thornton/Sian, Sweet!Eight/OC!Four, Zarek/Racetrack Warnings: Contains rape. The actual rape happens off-screen and is not the main plot, but the impact of it echoes through the rest of the fic. In addition to the rape, there is other talk of sexual assault, including referencing The Farm. If you would like more details in terms of who the assailants are, who the victim is, and what's going on, highlight: The rapists are the Sunshine Boys and the two Marines that were helping hold Athena down in Pegasus, and the victim is Hoshi. The rape takes place for reasons that are purely violent and meant as revenge, and this is not a hurt/comfort fic. (Not saying that Hoshi doesn't heal at all- just it's not the H/C genre.) As mentioned, the rape takes place off-screen, but Hoshi deals extensively with the fall-out through the rest of the story, and it very much influences his actions.. Other warnings include torture, miscarriage (neither one is graphic), and character death. Summary: Raptor 718 wasn't lost randomly; an Eight on board was ready to switch sides in the Cylon civil war. With the passengers of Raptor 718 being held prisoner on the Colony, the events on Galactica unfold differently. (Season 4.5 AU fic, and Kara-poof-free.) Notes: Thanks a million times over to my beta, kappamaki33, as well as to my f-list for listening to me rant and complain. Huge thanks also to safenthecity, who made the off-handed comment that inspired the story. Although it's not an official prologue, my story Honor and Duty sort of serves the purpose, especially in regards to Sweet!Eight. Title: Here on the Hill, Halfway Up Halfway Down Author: lls_mutantWord Count: ~29,800 Rating: Between PG-13 and R, higher rating for violence. Sex fades to black extremely quickly. Pairings: Mainly Gaeta/Cavil, with background pairings of Ellen/Cavil, the Tighs, and mentions of former male partners for Gaeta, including Baltar. Summary: Before the attacks, Felix Gaeta knew Brother Cavil as the chaplain on the Galactica. On New Caprica, Cavil became an ideal source of information, and Felix was willing to do what he had to do to get it. But how deeply can you entangle someone in a web without catching yourself as well? Notes: Written before viewing the Plan, but after reading spoilers. After checking BSG wiki, I'm very annoyed to find out that Cavil came aboard at a different time- I'd assumed he was the chaplain on Galactica from the series. Oh well, what the frak, it's an AU anyway. The title and the chapter titles are stolen from a song called "The Company" by Fish. Written for the bsgficexchange, before I got way too carried away, and happy late birthday to my recipient! Thanks to merrykk for the beta, to rednuck for allowing me to submit a second big bang, and to brennanspeaks, who did the fabulous art! 1. There is a Vala gen fic day in the offing. (I considered 'Z', but that might end up being Vala and Zealot bitching about being aliens on Earth and how kids, man, KIDS... er) 2. Apparently, it's hard for people to separate Vala from sex? I mean, yes, she's hot. And yes, she's flirty/etc. BUT DO YOU KNOW how hard it was for me to get her to even think about kissing Martha? Vala isn't just some walking sexbot, wanting to lust everything up. (it's like how Helo is really hard to make sex anyone not his wife, you guys) It is, of course, SG fandom, so I shouldn't be that surprised (I remember some of the awful things Teh List was saying once upon a time about her, and probably still does, knowing those idiots). 3. I have this urge to spend the night watching Marple and writing weird femslash. I should write my sg rarepair fics instead Though. trufax, I keep trying to write drabbles for fslash100 and ending up with 3-500 word ficlets. 4. Er, I also sort of want to watch B5. *I recced this fic a while back, but now that it’s finished, I really need to rec it again. ninety6tears ’ amazing crossover fic is not technically Kara gen fic, but it comes so close that it might as well be. It deals with character relationships in an utterly mature way, where there’s acquaintance and friendship and sexual chemistry and emotional connection and none of them is overpowering; Kara deals with them all, and with some characters she runs through the entire list, but it’s not haphazardly handled. The story is an AU starting from Kara flying into the maelstrom and she ends up discovered by the Enterprise crew from Star Trek XI. While this seems like a crack premise, the fic is a powerful look at what makes Kara tick, and to a lesser extent what makes Star Trek XI the grandchild of BSG. The character voices are spot on, the interactions are just what they should be, and while it’s not happy-go-lucky fic, it’s Kara-finding-healing fic. There are some deeply poignant moments, as well as some absolutely hilarious ones, and it’s just all around a great story. (Plus, wouldn’t you want to watch the universe where Kara and Uhura and Gaila make Kirk uncomfortable in a scene?) *I recced these guys just recently, but I should have waited a couple more episodes, because they described themselves perfectly after a pause mid-discussion: “We went from existential realism to ‘I wonder how many orgasms Cylons have when they jump’ in minutes—welcome to Galactica Watercooler, folks.” * This fic reminded me why Kara/Leoben is one of the best frakked up relationships on BSG. It brings connection and closure to the relationship without romanticizing it, and everything feels spot on. Even the ending, which usually I can't see (I love Leoben, but some of the things he does to my girl...), works in this story because everything leading up to it is character-true. *This was linked on someone's LJ post a while ago, and I just had to post it here too...it's the promo trailer for the BSG miniseries, and it's one of those deceptively awesome trailers that makes me go "Well, I liked what I ended up seeing, but I think I'd have liked the movie that the trailer is advertising better." *I recced lls_mutant 's BSG Big Bang back when it first came out, and now I can rec two more. "The Thread of Ariadne" is the third installment of the "Not All We Are" universe by lizardbeth_j , and it's just as heartbreakingly beautiful as the first two parts. There's so much rightness, and so much that will leave you flailing, and a true mythology change to the BSG universe that is staggeringly epic. I can't wait for the final part. *Also a Big Bang, one of the stories I beta'd is now out, and this was such a guilty pleasure for me to beta. I had a terrible time trying to stay professional in my comments, because most chapters I was just "OMG LOVE!" about it. It's "Through the Looking Glass" by karate0kat , and it's the perfect combination of a half dozen of my favorite BSG characters ending up in the Firefly universe, and all that goes along with that. There is banter, there is shippiness and adventure all around, there is amazing dialogue (especially Mal and River), and the end will leave you wanting the sequel as soon as possible (I meant what I said, Kat!) *And lastly, I realized that one of the good things “Daybreak” brought to BSG fandom was the kind of canon where Kara/Sam can now be related to sappy pop love songs. Literally. This makes me giggle. In particular, this song struck me as very Kara/Sam, especially these lines: “ Did I shout to all the gods/that I would love you beyond death?” This song has: multiple gods, loving beyond death, repeating cycles, memory loss...it’s tailor-made for BSG, no? Too bad it’s unviddable for K/S, because it’s so sappy that it would be deliciously ironic. *P.S. On the subject of vidding, can anyone think of good clips of a) Kara looking worried, or b) Cally/Galen's relationship struggling/falling apart (other than the obvious "Ties That Bind" scenes), or c) any scenes with Kara or Sam with Helo and/or Athena? A song gripped me to do my first meta story vid, and the storyboarding is driving me insane...POV is hard to establish in a vid with more than two characters.Tags: battlestar galactica, fanfiction
